Abstract

The archaeological excavations on the Monte Cesén, a ridge of the Alps between the Belluno Valley and the Venetian Plain, led to the discovery of a possible votive deposit visited by transhumant shepherds between the first and fourth centuries. The ceramic findings are in small numbers having been destroyed by harsh winters. On the other hand, the numismatic evidence is noteworthy. To clarify the onsistency between coin finds from archaeological excavations and coin finds from surveys, archaeometrical analyses have been carried out. The archaeological site, located on the transhumance paths, would strengthen the hypothesis of the existence of small places of worship used by shepherds.
