In this paper some results of the international research Transmedia Literacy: Exploiting Transmedia Skills and Informal Learning Strategies to Improve Formal Education – financed in 2015-2018 under the Horizon 2020 program – are illustrated and discussed. The research, which involved a target of 12 to 18 years-old students from 8 countries in the world, was aimed to propose an updated map of the transmedia skills and informal learning strategies of teenagers and to go beyond the identification of skills, trying to relate them to the world of formal education. For this purpose, a «Teacher’s Kit» was proposed for teachers, with activities and recommendations. Starting from the valorization of transmedia skills and informal learning strategies of teenagers, a mainstream idea of the digital school can be overcome, in order to achieve a new type of cultural agency, that places students and teachers at the center of the educational processes.
