Abstract

The article traces on the basis of the autographs kept in the Pascoli Archive at Castelvecchio the stage that leads to the final form of the Poemi conviviali. It results the tight redactional connection between L'ultimo viaggio and Il poeta degli Iloti, which reflects the centrality of the diptych at both the structural and the ideological level. In fact, the transition from the Homeric epos (L'ultimo viaggio) to Hesiod's didactic epos (Il poeta degli Iloti) depicts the choice of a poetry of social engagement, where the role of the poet in society and the relationship with history formerly examined by Mario Pazzaglia become essential.
