The article reviews and evaluates the major attempts at a classification of East Cushitic and proposes a few radical changes. The proposed classification is strictly binary. Lowland East Cushitic is given a genetic status; the parallelisms between Dullay and Yaaku are discussed and a genetic unit is tentatively suggested.
