This article analyses the oral place-names, formed or derived from color adjectives, recorded by the Atlante Toponomastico del Piemonte Montano (ATPM, research project of Turin’s University) in the Piedmontese alpine valleys (between France and Italy) where Piedmontese, Occitan, Franco-Provencal, but also Walser, Ligurian and Lombard varieties are spoken. Color is an interesting semantic field to verify the presence in the oral toponymy of archaic structures of perception and denomination that resist the adjustment made by the Italian on the dialects and to observe the presence of other community landscape’d taxonomies that colors carry out.

Abstract
This article analyses the oral place-names, formed or derived from color adjectives, recorded by the Atlante Toponomastico del Piemonte Montano (ATPM, research project of Turin’s University) in the Piedmontese alpine valleys (between France and Italy) where Piedmontese, Occitan, Franco-Provencal, but also Walser, Ligurian and Lombard varieties are spoken. Color is an interesting semantic field to verify the presence in the oral toponymy of archaic structures of perception and denomination that resist the adjustment made by the Italian on the dialects and to observe the presence of other community landscape’d taxonomies that colors carry out.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
