Abstract: This paper aims to analyse parody – a theatrical technique based on observation of the elements of singular/collective identity of a person – as a tool that allows the understanding of identity structure. First, it distinguishes singular and collective identity and it establishes legitimacy of the latter category, then some levels of observable elements pertaining to identity are listed (cultural, ethotic, linguistic elements). Therefore, a formal typology of enunciative configurations possibly generated is proposed. These configurations rely in particular on polyphony and enunciative postures, on internal/external apprehension, on the humorist’s solidarity with this identity, on the mediation of a character and on the role given to the public during the sketch. Afterwards, the case study of the Elie Kakou’s sketch “Granny Sarfati” is longitudinally analysed so as to show the overlapping between singular identity of the embodied character and collective identity of which he is a specimen. Finally, the pertinence of analysis model and notions used (identity, culture, ethos) are revisited and a posteriori validated.
