The Slavonic translations of the Greek hymns on the Virgin (Theotokia) provide very insightful information about the liturgical and, more generally, religious history of the Slavs. In addition, the fact that the same original text was translated at different places and times not only allows a deeper insight into the translation technique adopted, but makes also possible a linguistic and somehow even philological comparison between the extant Slavonic translations; in some cases, however, a different translator choice can depend upon variant readings in the Greek text. The present article contains the bilingual interlinear edition of nine Theotokia, according to different manuscripts, mainly of East Slavonic provenance, as well as a short commentary of the main lin- guistic and philological features related to the Slavonic text with respect to its Greek source.

Abstract
The Slavonic translations of the Greek hymns on the Virgin (Theotokia) provide very insightful information about the liturgical and, more generally, religious history of the Slavs. In addition, the fact that the same original text was translated at different places and times not only allows a deeper insight into the translation technique adopted, but makes also possible a linguistic and somehow even philological comparison between the extant Slavonic translations; in some cases, however, a different translator choice can depend upon variant readings in the Greek text. The present article contains the bilingual interlinear edition of nine Theotokia, according to different manuscripts, mainly of East Slavonic provenance, as well as a short commentary of the main lin- guistic and philological features related to the Slavonic text with respect to its Greek source.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
