The writer Franco Vegliani (1915-1982) exemplifies, through his characters, the difficulty of separating the profession of magistrate from personal involvement with the cases that a judge must face every day in a courtroom. The outcome of this dichotomous dilemma is always dramatically resolved in the stories of this writer. But Vegliani’s novels also present the reader a truth, perhaps elementary but fundamental: “whoever does evil is made of the same flesh as whoever does good”. In other words, who decides is just “a man who judges other men”. Vegliani’s literary production therefore represents a new and interesting subject, for now almost unexplored, in the Law and Humanities field that strongly brings us back to an anthropological dimension of law to which all jurists cannot ignored.
