Although this goes mostly unnoticed, Contrastive Linguistics normally makes a systematic use of the methods and the results of Translation Studies, for instance with regard to the compilation of parallel corpora whose production has increased dramatically in the last years. Furthermore, a theoretical framework such as Construction Grammar has grown up rapidly in recent years which is also characterized by its use of large text corpora although its main focus normally centers on language-specific constructions. In this chapter, the attempt will be made to reduce these three different frames and methods to a common denominator with the help of empirical examples drawn from German, Italian and English, which will also show their relevance for the education and the concrete activity of professional translators.

Abstract
Although this goes mostly unnoticed, Contrastive Linguistics normally makes a systematic use of the methods and the results of Translation Studies, for instance with regard to the compilation of parallel corpora whose production has increased dramatically in the last years. Furthermore, a theoretical framework such as Construction Grammar has grown up rapidly in recent years which is also characterized by its use of large text corpora although its main focus normally centers on language-specific constructions. In this chapter, the attempt will be made to reduce these three different frames and methods to a common denominator with the help of empirical examples drawn from German, Italian and English, which will also show their relevance for the education and the concrete activity of professional translators.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
