This paper aims to analyze the most relevant measures adopted by the Department of prison administration to contain the spread of the Covid-19 contagion within prisons. After a brief description of the context in which these measures took place, the analysis will retrace the various phases of the health emergency, highlighting the main measures adopted for each of them, without neglecting the reference to state interventions on the subject. Furthermore, a critical reading will be offered of some passages contained in the circulars regarding the protection of prisoners' rights. Finally, some conclusive considerations will be formulated relating to the management of the pandemic in prison with an eye also to the international level.
