In Apollonius Rhodius’ Argonautica the diviner Idmon plays a significant role, although there are not many scenes in which he appears before his fate is fulfilled by King Lycus. On the other hand, in the different and almost lost traditions of the Argonautic enterprise, the diviner led the actions of Jason and the other heroes by Aeeta, and then perished on the way back to Greece. In particular, in some fragments of the Naupaktia, Idmon seems to play a key role in two significant episodes set in Colchis. This contribution aims to show how, in the corresponding episodes, Apollonius, implementing a deep reprise of themes and situations of the archaic poem, has conceived a different structure, in which the characters – Mopsus, Argos, Idas, Jason, Medea – move according to narrative schemes typical of the Hellenistic poem.
