Icilio Guareschi e l’intervento sui codici danneggiati nell’incendio della Biblioteca Nazionale di Torino

The contribution focuses on the intervention of Icilio Guareschi on the manuscripts damaged in the fire of the National Library of Turin, which occurred in 1904. He faced the recovery and conservation treatments of manuscripts, in which severe damages of different kinds were found: from those due to the action of fire, to those caused by the extinguishing water. Treatments carried out by Guareschi and the team that worked with him are described, and some reflections are formulated about the general approach of the chemist to the conservation of manuscripts.
