This paper analyses the impact of the current multidimensional crisis (a health and social crisis, a climate and environmental crisis and a debt crisis) on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, identifying two issues that need to be urgently addressed: the unsustainability of sovereign debt in many low- and medium-income countries and the collapse of financing for development. This paper first describes (and criticises) the G20 Debt Service Suspension Initiative and Common Framework and then discusses the proposal to channel the new allocation of IMF Special Drawing Rights to developing countries, underlining the risk of the introduction of creeping conditionalities attached to their use.

Abstract
This paper analyses the impact of the current multidimensional crisis (a health and social crisis, a climate and environmental crisis and a debt crisis) on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, identifying two issues that need to be urgently addressed: the unsustainability of sovereign debt in many low- and medium-income countries and the collapse of financing for development. This paper first describes (and criticises) the G20 Debt Service Suspension Initiative and Common Framework and then discusses the proposal to channel the new allocation of IMF Special Drawing Rights to developing countries, underlining the risk of the introduction of creeping conditionalities attached to their use.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
