This study attempts to unravel some aspects of the relation image, likeness and false resemblance as discussed in Augustine of Hippo’s Soliloquia, an early dialogue composed in 386-387 A.D. The aim of this paper is to present an account of the theory of the image and likeness on the basis of the interpretation of Augustine’s works, with a view to its implications to the domain of semiotics.
