The article focuses on the literary representation of Naples in the short story Agripina, included in the work Inventário de Junho (1899) by Manuel Teixeira-Gomes. The city and its surroundings, in the writer's description, become a scenario in which the survival and resurrection of the ancient world is possible. This motif culminates, in the conclusion of the story, in a vision that has as its object the figure of Agrippina, to whom are attributed the features of a statue admired at the National Museum of Naples.
