The aim of this paper is to review the Dose Delivery System (DDS), developed by the National Center for Oncological Hadrontherapy (CNAO), Pavia, Italy, in collaboration with a group at the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) of Turin, Italy. The DDS controls and monitors the delivery of clinical ion beams.
