Between the 1950s and the 1970s, ERI published a series of books as supplements to radio programmes devoted to the learning of Spanish. This contribution focuses on the volume by Leonetta Biancolini Kissopoulos (1950), which was re-published in the following years. More specifically, this article examines the representation of cultural otherness in the teaching of foreign languages, with a focus on Latin American Spanish-speaking countries. The present observations on its paratext aim at reflecting on the import and modalities of cultural representation within the frame of the volume as a whole. This analysis refers to key concepts of several research lines investigating the construction of alterity, in order to bring into focus the most advantageous perspectives for the study of this kind of sources.
