The paper illustrates some metholodogical and ethical issues related to the use of the shadowing technique in social research. In spite of being quite applied within social sciences, shadowing has received little methodologi-cal attention so far. It implies, nonetheless, an in-depht and direct observa-tion, which presents various ethical implications, named “ethics in prac-tice”, namely complex decisions among two or more options, equally val-uable. In order to afford these kinds of situations, it would be beneficial to develop a scientific debate on the topic, even in our country.

Abstract
The paper illustrates some metholodogical and ethical issues related to the use of the shadowing technique in social research. In spite of being quite applied within social sciences, shadowing has received little methodologi-cal attention so far. It implies, nonetheless, an in-depht and direct observa-tion, which presents various ethical implications, named “ethics in prac-tice”, namely complex decisions among two or more options, equally val-uable. In order to afford these kinds of situations, it would be beneficial to develop a scientific debate on the topic, even in our country.File in questo prodotto:
