Voces de poetas. Introducción a un estudio fonético y empírico sobre Alberti, Guillén y Neruda

This paper presents a first phonetic study on Spanish poetry reading. It is composed of a theoretical introduction and an empirical analysis. We firstly carry out a qualitative anal-ysis on three representative Spanish-speaking 20th-century poets, namely Rafael Alberti, Jorge Guillén, and Pablo Neruda. Utilizing a phonetic approach, our research applies the VIP-Voices of Italian Poets methodology and shows, in turn, a system based on norm and variation, which also confirms the importance of empirical studies to deepen the un-derstanding of vocality of poetry. Furthermore, the research, although based on a small corpus of recordings, allows the comparison of three main different poetry reading styles, considering a principled selection of indices. Finally, thanks to a qualitative-comparative approach the study shows that it is possible to detect not only stylistic divergences be-tween the last and the current century, but also different ways of producing one of the main rhetorical aspects of poetry, namely the enjambment.
