Freire’s pedagogy and his educational action are based on a precise and articulated pedagogical anthropology. This accounts for the plurality of philosophical sources and cultural references that characterize the thought of the Brazilian pedagogist. In this context, the category of history assumes a pre-eminent role: both in declining the essential historicity of human beings (philosophical anthropology) and in clarifying their role in the world and in time (philosophy of history). These two declinations, only apparently very abstract, are rich in practical implications and determine different educational actions.
