This review article analyses the development of environmental history from its origins to its current more relevant trends. In the process, it focuses on this evolution by analyzing the development of two dynamics of «unequal exchanges». The first exchange regards the one between historiographies and academic contexts of different states. The second one takes place between environmental history and other disciplines, both within the humanities and among the natural sciences.
