In his seminal book on Heidegger and practical philosophy, Reiner Schürmann characterizes the «political» as the domain that most clearly shows a metaphysical principle’s scope of rule. This argument is not only the core of his interpretation of Heidegger’s thought, but also the most clear definition of his political ontology. The notion of political ontology presupposes that each political conception has an ontological relevance and, vice versa, each ontology has a political structure. This essay investigates Schürmann’s anarchical conception of being and its consequences on the political role of philosophy itself.

Abstract

In his seminal book on Heidegger and practical philosophy, Reiner Schürmann characterizes the «political» as the domain that most clearly shows a metaphysical principle’s scope of rule. This argument is not only the core of his interpretation of Heidegger’s thought, but also the most clear definition of his political ontology. The notion of political ontology presupposes that each political conception has an ontological relevance and, vice versa, each ontology has a political structure. This essay investigates Schürmann’s anarchical conception of being and its consequences on the political role of philosophy itself.
