Il Ricettacolo e una relativa esegetica: Platone, Timeo 48a7

The aim of this paper is to analyse Timaeus 48a7 and to show that the traditional translation (and understanding) of the sentence ᾗ φέρειν πέφυκεν, though plausible from a grammatical point of view, is not to be preferred from both stylistic and philosophical points of view. More specifically, the Italian translation I will eventually propose («la quale per natura ha la capacità di supportare») can account for crucial aspects related to Plato’s theory of the receptacle and is supported by Plato’s use of epic style in this writing.
