The presented article focuses on the whitish decorations of the leech fibula, part of the Bellini collection, preserved at the Civico Museo Archeologico of Sesto Calende. The archaeometric analysis of the materials constituting the decorations made it possible to exclude the use of materials such as bone and ivory, identifying the presence of low magnesian calcite. It may derive from the use of a carbonate material of biogenic origin, or from the use of fossils, or by the presence of denatured Corallium rubrum, due to diagenetic phenomena.

Abstract
The presented article focuses on the whitish decorations of the leech fibula, part of the Bellini collection, preserved at the Civico Museo Archeologico of Sesto Calende. The archaeometric analysis of the materials constituting the decorations made it possible to exclude the use of materials such as bone and ivory, identifying the presence of low magnesian calcite. It may derive from the use of a carbonate material of biogenic origin, or from the use of fossils, or by the presence of denatured Corallium rubrum, due to diagenetic phenomena.File in questo prodotto:
