This article focuses on the reception of Statius in Claudian’s panegyric for Olybrius and Probinus. Through several allusions to Statius’ Thebaid, Claudian takes up the epic model of Eteocles and Polynices, brothers struggling for power, and adapts it to praise the concord of the consuls Anicii and their genus and, therefore, the good government of the emperor Theodosius.
