Robert Spaemann is one of the main philosophers who argue for the thesis according to which every human must be acknowledged as a person. In this paper I shall particularly examine Spaemann’s statement that the claim to acknowledge as persons only the human beings who actually have certain features reduces the acknowledgment of the status of person to a cooptation, therefore to the mere act of a power.

Abstract

Robert Spaemann is one of the main philosophers who argue for the thesis according to which every human must be acknowledged as a person. In this paper I shall particularly examine Spaemann’s statement that the claim to acknowledge as persons only the human beings who actually have certain features reduces the acknowledgment of the status of person to a cooptation, therefore to the mere act of a power.
