The story of Alexander the Great narrated in Fulgentius' De aetatibus mundi et hominis has, as usual in the work, an exemplary function which is divided into its three phases: the description of the monstruous conception, the series of conquests and the dead of Macedonian king. In the Fulgentian narrative the omissions take on an importance equal to the facts narrated and help to isolate the chrachter from a tragic scene that does not admit other protagonists than the Macedonian himself.
