The chapter explores the rapid transition to distance teaching in Italian universities during the Covid-19 pandemic, focusing on the experiences and perceptions of faculty members. In response to the sudden suspension of in-person classes in March 2020, universities swiftly adopted online platforms for teaching, an unprecedented move for the majority of lecturers. Based on a national survey conducted in June 2020 with over 3,300 respondents, the chapter examines the organizational and individual challenges faced, the technological infrastructure deployed, and the overall faculty assessment of distance teaching. While most respondents were able to adapt effectively to the new teaching methods, challenges such as workload, reduced student interaction, and difficulties in conducting practical exercises were evident. The chapter also discusses the future of hybrid teaching models and their potential benefits, highlighting the importance of institutional support and the role of faculty proactivity in enhancing teaching innovation during the crisis.

Abstract
The chapter also discusses the future of hybrid teaching models and their potential benefits, highlighting the importance of institutional support and the role of faculty proactivity in enhancing teaching innovation during the crisis.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
