With the advent of the information revolution, we find ourselves daily engaged with "technologies of the mind" such as PCs, Fitbits, tablets, smartphones, action cameras, voice assistants, and the like. These devices have accustomed us to handling "non-things" such as data and information, compelling us to develop an appropriate mode of thought for grappling with this peculiar "non-thingly" material. Its paradoxical and disorienting nature forces us to renegotiate the boundaries of what we traditionally considered real, urging us not so much to question whether reality exists but rather to examine what exactly we mean when we think and speak of it. This book seeks to articulate a realism fit for contemporary times, one capable of addressing the joint demands of common sense, scientific inquiry, and speculative reflection. It achieves this by combining analytical and conceptual rigor with close attention to everyday phenomena. The work thus explores the potential connections between the question of being, the challenge of conceptual revision, social media feeds, the choice to use inclusive language such as the schwa, and extreme climate events. Finally, it discusses the virtues of informational realism, explaining what data truly are and in what sense "the world is datum".
