This paper aims to provide a first description of poetry’s vocal imagery, based on perceptual Phonetics methodologies. The essay consists of two parts: the first part is theoretical, introducing the themes of poetic voice, reading, and listening; and the second part presents an experimental study on poetry recognition at an acoustic level. The research made it possible to outline some of the most salient features that are considered to characterise the imagination of voice in this musical literary form
