Abstract

A time-circumscribed episode with intrinsic historical value is reconstructed in this paper, with the aim of assessing the international isolation of Italian mathematicians in the last phase of the fascist regime. The announcement that Francesco Tricomi gave of the creation of a new journal of mathematical bibliography, Mathematical Reviews, and the consequent reactions of H. Geppert, W. Blaschke and E. Bompiani return the regressive anti-internationalist parable which the Italian mathematical community travelled in those years.
