The paper is a re-publication, in a more complete way, of the false door of Iry, currently kept in the Vatican Museums, Gregorian Egyptian Museum, with the inventory number 22775. The false door was found in Giza in 1903, but both its exact provenance and original location are unknown. The place of its discovery (Giza), as well as the main titles of the individual — ‘Inspector of the wab-priests of Khufu’s pyramid’, ‘Overseer of the pyramid town of Khufu’ and ‘Royal chamberlain of the great house’ — led early archaeologists to link Iry directly to King Khufu’s time, but such a dating is impossible for many artistic, epigraphic and philological reasons. By means of the reassessment of all the available data and a detailed comparison with other similar artefacts, this paper argues for a new dating and definition of the false door.

Abstract
By means of the reassessment of all the available data and a detailed comparison with other similar artefacts, this paper argues for a new dating and definition of the false door.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
