The purposes of humor and irony are not only to make people laugh, but also to trigger a process which, through mockery, aims to humiliate, discredit and even annihilate, at least symbolically, an opponent, or to blame an individual or social behavior. This article focuses on the uses of ironic discourse in Thomas III of Saluzzo’s Livre du Chevalier Errant, in whose writing humor becomes an instrument of political struggle, social denunciation and satire of customs.
