This study explores the linguistic affordances that International Students (ISs) and English Medium Instruction (EMI) bring in local Internationalisation at Home (IaH) contexts. Based on a large student survey, results show that despite local students’ positive attitudes about ISs and EMI and their conviction that they can improve their foreign language skills, only a few students are truly benefiting from them. The study suggests that for a successful implementation of IaH, English is probably not the only language to consider, and that the mere presence of ISs and EMI does not guarantee internationalisation for all non-mobile students.

Abstract
This study explores the linguistic affordances that International Students (ISs) and English Medium Instruction (EMI) bring in local Internationalisation at Home (IaH) contexts. Based on a large student survey, results show that despite local students’ positive attitudes about ISs and EMI and their conviction that they can improve their foreign language skills, only a few students are truly benefiting from them. The study suggests that for a successful implementation of IaH, English is probably not the only language to consider, and that the mere presence of ISs and EMI does not guarantee internationalisation for all non-mobile students.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
