This paper presents studies and practices developed by the Living Theatre - theater group emerged in the US in the 40’s - especially during the creative process of their play Paradise Now. One of their hypothesis in that project was that sexual liberation enables the rescue of an immanent desire unattached from lack and a desirable state of presence, through the pursuit of a profound reconnection with oneself and the environment. We aim to analyze the group’s experiences and reflections on the forms of repression that affect individuals, which become social oppressions. Concepts such as “Body Without Organs” and “Field of Immanence of Desire” by Deleuze and Guattari, alongside essential ideas of the Eastern thought and the concept of sexual repression by Wilhelm Reich, are used to analyze the relationship between artwork and existing practices in the Living Theatre route.

Abstract
This paper presents studies and practices developed by the Living Theatre - theater group emerged in the US in the 40’s - especially during the creative process of their play Paradise Now. One of their hypothesis in that project was that sexual liberation enables the rescue of an immanent desire unattached from lack and a desirable state of presence, through the pursuit of a profound reconnection with oneself and the environment. We aim to analyze the group’s experiences and reflections on the forms of repression that affect individuals, which become social oppressions. Concepts such as “Body Without Organs” and “Field of Immanence of Desire” by Deleuze and Guattari, alongside essential ideas of the Eastern thought and the concept of sexual repression by Wilhelm Reich, are used to analyze the relationship between artwork and existing practices in the Living Theatre route.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
