Artisti e artigiani intorno a Giacomo Tazzini, “Architetto dei Reali e Imperiali Fabbricati di Corte” nella Milano della Restaurazione

For nearly three decades, in the Royal Palace of Milan, the maintenance, the upgrading, and the transformation activities were managed by the Milanese architect Giacomo Tazzini. Archival documentations, literary sources, and drawings cast light on the presence of a large number of artists and artisans engaged in this huge building site, allowing us to advance observations on working methods, techniques, materials, and the role played by the architect in the whole organization. Croughout two case studies – the construction of the throne and its baldachin in the Sala delle Cariatidi and the setting up of a new apartment on the second floor of the building – Tazzini’s personality emerges clearly, as does his predilection for a certain taste and style in decorations achieved through careful casting of the workforce to hide.
