In 2021, the ISMEO and the International Institute of Kurdish Culture in Rome decided to jointly launch a new archaeological mission in Iraqi Kurdistan: the MiSAK - Missione Storico Archeologica Italiana nel Kurdistan. MiSAK began its activities in December 2021 with a project dedicated to the study, preservation and enhancement of the archaeological site of Sarqala, in the Garmian area. The first campaign of this project saw the realisation of a topographical reconnaissance, preparatory to all future archaeological activities, the start of the collection and study of surface archaeological materials, and the collection of new photographic documentation of the Parthian period tomb discovered in 2013.

Abstract

In 2021, the ISMEO and the International Institute of Kurdish Culture in Rome decided to jointly launch a new archaeological mission in Iraqi Kurdistan: the MiSAK - Missione Storico Archeologica Italiana nel Kurdistan.
