This article deals with the big internal migration which took place in Italy between the 1920s and the 1970s. It was rightly perceived as a huge phenomenon: in fact, from 1955 to 1965 only, no less than 25 million people moved into through the Italian territory. Turin was one of the cities that hosted the highest number of immigrants, and throughout that period the city changed both its social structure and its urban aspect. The internal immigrants arrived in Turin from both the North and the South of Italy, but racism and discrimination were mainly practiced against the Southerners. The exclusion strategy developed by the established against the outsiders affected not only the southern immigrants’ lives but also those belonging to the second and third generations. Nowadays, it is important to keep studying Italian internal migration as there are still many aspects to be discovered about it. This is central not only to a better understanding of recent Italian history but also to acquire further keys of interpretation for the new immigration.

Abstract
This is central not only to a better understanding of recent Italian history but also to acquire further keys of interpretation for the new immigration.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
