This paper deals with the portrayal of Andromache as a Maenad in act III of Seenca’s Troades, and reads Odysseus’ detective strategy in the light of relevant Greek tragic models (in particular Sophocles’ Ajax and Philoctetes). Odysseus as detective on the trail of the prey will also be crucial in Statius’ Achilleid, when the hero and Diomedes hunt transvestite Achilles at Scyros.
