Translating into Italian the text of Libro de los Gatos, that is itself a translation of the Fabulae or Narrationes of Odo of Cheriton, highlights, among others, certain problems relating to the names of the animals, the final moralisations of the fables and the divergences between the Spanish text and its Latin source. Indeed, in the first work, the types of animals are not always easily recognisable - for instance, ‘bufo’ (‘toad’? - ‘owl’?) and ‘escaravacos’ (‘beetles’?) - and the concluding lessons are considerably expanded. Finally, some translation errors from Latin compromise the diegesis of the Spanish tales. To deal with the Italian translation it is therefore necessary to compare the Spanish text to the different Latin codices of Odo by using the tools of philology.

Abstract
To deal with the Italian translation it is therefore necessary to compare the Spanish text to the different Latin codices of Odo by using the tools of philology.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
