José Lezama Lima (1910-1976) is highly appreciated and studied by critics for his surrealist poetic productions and his two great novels, considered masterpieces of Latin American neo-baroque. Less studied is his essay production, a large corpus of considerations on aesthetic and identity issues, principles of historicism and limits of epistemology, which is characterised by the use of an argumentative prose that is often cryptic and difficult to read. The aim of this work is to examine Lezama’s argumentative prose from a translational-hermeneutical point of view. To this end, we focus firstly on the epistemological value that both the Surrealist experience and the Latin American Neo-Baroque represented for the author's formation. Finally, an analysis of a typical Lezamian argumentative passage is proposed: the breakdown of argumentative levels and the interpretation of meaning.

Abstract
Finally, an analysis of a typical Lezamian argumentative passage is proposed: the breakdown of argumentative levels and the interpretation of meaning.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
