In Giovanni Pascoli’s Archive at Castelvecchio, inside the box concerning the Poemi del Risorgimento, three manuscripts connected with the War of Libya (1911-12) are kept. One of them, in particular, consists of a collection of ancient sources about the history of Cyrenaica. They must be reffered to some unfullfilled poetical project born on the wave of events and to the elaboration of the oration La grande Proletaria si è mossa. The present paper provides the edition of the manuscripts and their analysis, focusing on a feature of Pascoli’s political and patriotic poetry, i.e. the transfiguration of current events by means of the appropriation of classics.
