Sessualità e invecchiamento nell’era del Viagra: i medici di medicina generale a confronto.

In this contribution we focus on the transformations of the vision of sexuality in the third age, at the intersection of two phenomena: the advent of sexuopharmaceuticals such as Viagra and the spread of a rhetoric of active aging (also referred to as "positive", "successful", "healthy", etc.). We are witnessing a transformation of how people, especially men, perceive and experience age-related sexual changes, with a significant shift from a notion of old age understood as a process of de-sexualization and "sexual retirement" to a new representation of people who age as subjectivity who have the right (and duty) to remain sexually active. This cultural shift towards a re-sexualization of the third age challenges the established medical vision - as well as representations of common sense - forcing general practitioners - the subject of this article - to face an open debate between different perceptions and definitions of what is normal in sexual aging.
