This paper aims at studying Dialogue Interpreting (DI) between French and Italian taught to Italian-speaking learners still learning French as a Foreign Language (FFL). After a few remarks on the decline of FLE in secondary edu‐ cation in Italy, the theoretical and methodological characteristics of DI are outlined in order to highlight the links between DI didactics and FFL di‐ dactics. Afterwards, the main didactic methodologies that can be adopted in an introductory course in DI are discussed. Furthermore, some examples from an Introductory course in DI between French and Italian give important details about the teachers’ role. Thanks to these theoretical and empirical foundations, it is finally argued that it is possible to teach the basics of DI to learners still learning FFL and that this type of exercise can strengthen their FFL skills and even empower them.
