Different morphologies correspond to different systems of air and water circulation, the vectors of heat in the cave. By interpreting the temperature and humidity data in the cave, it is possible to learn how the morphology of the cave influences its microclimate. Conversely, the microclimate of a cave whose entire development is not known, can provide indications of entrances or parts of the cave yet to be discovered. The book describes the significance of cave thermal data and analyzes the geomorphological factors that influence the cave microclimate. The main types of cave thermal dynamics are described with real examples of caves from the Western Alps and Albania. Finally, some microclimatic indices are described to describe the microclimate of a cave, characterize the habitat of the cave, and identify any discrepancies between the physical behavior of the cave and the knowledge about its development.
