Il generale Govone tra storia (al Sud) e memoria (al Nord). «Senza badare a destra o sinistra, né ai borbonici né ai liberali ma alla legge solamente»

Attraverso i documenti conservati presso il Museo Nazionale del Risorgimento italiano di Torino, il saggio ripercorre gli aspetti salienti della biografia del generale Giuseppe Govone, soffermandosi sulla sua esperienza nella repressione del brigantaggio alla frontiera pontificia tra il 1861 e il 1862, e in particolare sul “duello” con Luigi Alonzi detto Chiavone. Per inquadrare il personaggio nella giusta ottica, è stato messo in rilievo, tra “piccola” e “grande” patria, tra vecchio Piemonte e Italia unita, l’aspetto memoriale, ancora oggi sospeso tra agiografia e oblio. Ne è emerso un mito (o antimito) contraddittorio, di uno dei generali più preparati e coraggiosi del Risorgimento italiano, uomo della Destra storica, conoscitore della realtà meridionale, ma convinto assertore del pugno duro contro qualsiasi elemento destabilizzante il nuovo ordine costituito. [English] Through the documents conserved at the National Museum of the Italian Risorgimento in Turin, the essay retraces the salient aspects of the biography of General Giuseppe Govone, dwelling on his experience in the repression of brigandage on the papal frontier between 1861 and 1862, and in particular on the 'duel' with Luigi Alonzi known as Chiavone. In order to put the character in the right perspective, the memorial aspect, still today suspended between hagiography and oblivion, between 'small' and 'big' homeland, between old Piedmont and united Italy, was highlighted. A contradictory myth (or antimyth) has emerged, of one of the most prepared and courageous generals of the Italian Risorgimento, a man of the historical Right, an expert on the reality of the south, but a convinced advocate of the hard fist against any element destabilising the new constituted order.
