The MCC- Metropolitan City of Cagliari has significantly promoted spatial policy initiatives by implementing the Metropolitan Strategic Plan. LAB- MET, also known as the “Laboratorio Metropolitano d’Innovazione,” operates as the Urban Agency of the Metropolitan City of Cagliari. It serves as both a digital and physical hub for sharing and popularizing urban issues, functioning as an effective tool for land development while fostering a community of open discus- sions accessible to all, guided by the principles of open government. One of the most significant action of LABMET is The MCC GIS Observatory. It is a dedicated program within the Metropolitan City of Cagliari aimed at collecting, managing, analyzing, and disseminating geographical data. Its primary objective is to monitor and comprehend territorial dynamics through GIS tools. In pursuit of its objec- tives, the Observatory undertakes essential tasks, such as collecting, selecting, organizing, and disseminating data and information, thus progressively enrich- ing the shared knowledge base. This collective epistemic foundation supports decision-making in the public interest. It is critical in advancing and administer- ing the processes of gathering, filtering, systematizing, and circulating information and data and territorial dynamics through GIS tools.
