Manuscript London, British Library, Additional 36614 (L), is one of the oldest witnesses of the First and Second Continuations of Chrétien de Troyes’s Conte du Graal and one of the only two witnesses of its Bliocadran prologue, followed by an unrelated text, a version of the Vie de sainte Marie l’Égyptienne. L was copied by several scribes. The article examines the codicological and palaeographical structure of the manuscript, as well as the linguistic and philological evidence which makes it possible to establish that the Continuations are to be considered as later additions to a codicological unit which was originally intended to contain only Chrétien's text.
