Abstract

Can fnance help mankind? This is the question I have been asking myself for years. We are used to reading sad news about money. Apparently, money is used exclu-sively for illicit traffcking and only the wicked enjoy it, while good people are crushed by a system that exploits them. Is this true? Is this the way things really are? Perhaps money is just a tool. What makes the difference is the purpose of those who use it. Think of the good things that can be done with charity. Hence the idea. Social bonds are instruments created to improve collective welfare. Their nature, however, means that they can also be used for individual well-being. If the initiative works, they earn a return and guarantee repayment of the principal upon reaching maturity. They can be seen as an alternative to donations (for those who believe in them) or as a tool for diversifcation (for those interested in personal gain). The ultimate reason for the investment is of little importance. What matters is the fow of resources towards ethical purposes. At the moment, it is a niche market but one with great potential for development. This book proposes a worldwide study of the topic. The analysis is conducted on the social reality implemented everywhere, seeking to focus on the economic aspects (risk and return, fundraising, successes and failures), but also on the pros and cons of the instrument, in order to propose a comprehensive study of the sector.
