The water sources in the steppe lands are fundamental for the birth and development of big centres. The purpose of this paper is to analyze all the published and unpublished data preserved in the Archive of the Italian Expedition at Hatra (UniTO) concerning the water sources of the site, evaluating their quality and use but also the clever capacity of stocking them by the inhabitants in a system strongly influenced by a strict relation between natural features and anthropic intervention.

Abstract
